In the total whiteout, you hold on to whatever you can. You don’t notice these red markers planted in the snow every thirty meters when the weather is fine. You search for them when visibility drops to twenty meters, when the wind erases the tracks, when sky and earth become the same white.
They don’t lead anywhere spectacular. Just to the next pole. Then the one after that.
