They were there, almost invisible, two young ibex leaning against the slope, busy scraping the hard snow to reach a bit of grass. The wind whipped, the cold rose from the ground, and yet they held on, silent, motionless in that strange glow that seemed to isolate them from the world.

I disturbed them for a moment. They looked at me without moving, as if they appeared just between two breaths, before disappearing back into the mountain.
